Recently, the European Academy of Sciences (EurASc) announced the results of the 2024 academician co-option, and Mr Wang Deyi, Distinguished Professor of the University, was elected as an academician of the Engineering Division of EurASc.

As of 2024, more than 800 distinguished scholars from more than 50 countries have been elected to the European Academy of Sciences, including 46 Nobel Prize winners and 17 Fields Medal winners. Prof Wang Deyi graduated from Sichuan University in 2007 with a Doctor of Science degree in Polymer Chemistry and Physics, and has worked as a researcher and teacher in leading universities and research institutes in the UK, China, Germany, Switzerland and Spain. Prof Wang Deyi is currently a Senior Scientist/Research Professor and Director of the Department of New Materials at the Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies of Materials. His main research interests include fire safety materials, polymer engineered materials and sustainable materials, and his research results have been successfully applied in various fields such as aerospace, automotive, electronics and architecture, etc. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2016 and President of the China-Spain Science and Technology Association in 2024.
Since 2019, Professor Wang Deyi has been appointed as a visiting professor of the university, relying on the School of Materials Science and Engineering of the university, and is committed to promoting the development of materials disciplines, high-level talent cultivation and international academic exchanges at Chongqing Jiaotong University. Professor Wang Deyi is currently serving as the honorary director of the China-Spain Joint Research Centre for Advanced Materials of Chongqing Jiaotong University. He has guided Associate Professor Li Zhi’s team in the School of Materials to build the Institute of New Energy Materials and the China-Spain Joint Research Centre for Advanced Materials of Chongqing Jiaotong University and developed the research direction of flame-retardant macromolecules and fire-safe batteries, and has obtained four national projects, more than 20 provincial and ministerial projects, and more than 20 high-quality papers. A series of scientific research results, such as SCI Zone 1 papers, have formed a certain influence.
